Stadio Delle Alpi
The Stadio Delle Alpi was built for the World Cup 'Italia '90' and had a capacity of 69,000. It hosted 5 games during the tournament, most famously the semi final between England and West Germany, which went to extra time and penalties, with West Germany winning.
Juventus moved into the ground in the following season but struggled to fill such a big ground. Although Juventus are the most supported team in Italy, many do not live in Turin, and average gates would be around 40,000. There was also an athletics track, meaning the fans felt they were rattling around in a half empty stadium and far away from the action. The Delle Alpi would only ever be full during Champions League matches or Serie A games against city rivals Torino or AC Milan and Inter Milan.
Between the 2006/07 and 2010/11 seasons Juventus were ground sharing with local rivals, and Serie B team, Torino. Builders then knocked down the old stadium and built an impressive smaller ground along with a shopping centre, Juve megastore and museum. This opened in time for the 2011/12 football season.
The club and the fans were keen to get a 'Premiership' style venue, where the fans were on top of the action and could create an intimidating, cauldron of passion and noise..
Capacity has been reduced to 40,200 which means tickets will become harder to obtain and the ground should sell out on a regular basis.
You can see what the old stadium was like in our Alpine Apres video from the match between Juventus and Liverpool in the Champions League from 2005.
During the World Cup it hosted many famous teams and games. It was the venue that Brazil played all their group games.
