Stadio Delle Alpi
Since the 2006/07 season Juventus have been ground sharing with Serie B team Torino. This is while their 69,000 seater Stadio Delle Alpi undergoes a complete restructure. The Delle Alpi was originally constructed as one of the host venues for the Italian World Cup in 1990, with Juventus inheriting the ground after the competition.
The ground was never popular with the fans, as it has a running track and took away from the atmosphere, as the fans felt their were too far from the action.
Juventus have the largest fan base of any team in Italy, but many of their fans are spread out over the country and are too far away to get to the stadium on a regular basis. Therefore the stadium would rarely be full, with average Serie A attendances being around 35,000. The stadium would only be full during big Champions league matches or Serie A games against city rivals Torino or AC Milan and Inter Milan.
The club and the fans were keen to get a 'Premiership' style venue, where the fans were on top of the action and could create an intimidating, cauldron of passion and noise.
Plans were finally approved in 2008 and the demolishon of the old stadium began. In june 2009 this was completed and the building of the new ground began. This should be completed by the summer of 2011. The Delle Alpi will have a shopping centre, Juventus Superstore, Juventus Museum and cafes, bars and restaurants.
Capacity has been reduced to 40,200 which means tickets will become harder to obtain and the ground should sell out on a regular basis.
