Sestriere
Sestriere is one of the most famous resorts in Italy. It hosted the World Cup in 1997 and the main ski events in the Torino Winter Olympic Games in 2006. It is the highest resort in the Milky Way system that stretches 400km, encompassing five resorts and even spilling into France.
The resort was originally developed by Fiat as a weekend retreat for their factory workers from Turin. The Agnelli family saw the benefit of looking after their staff and providing entertainment for them.
The mountain has some of the steeper slopes in the Milky Way, a board park and is central with links to Sauze D'Oulx and Sansicario.
Despite these, the resort also appeals to families and beginners, with a good learning area and decent ski schools. Being high the snow conditions are usually good and the resort is usually the last of the Italian Milky Way resorts to close.
