Sansicario

This is the smallest resort of the five that make up the Milky Way but is a great link resort with lifts directly into the ski areas of Claviere, Sestriere and Sauze D'Oulx. The village is small with only a couple of hotels. Most visitors here are Italians who have apartments and come for the holidays or weekends. It is very sunny here and also the resort is quite low so under poor conditions or at the end of the season the lower slopes can be slushy. However, when conditions are good this is arguably the best skiing in the Milky Way. The pistes are wide, long and tree lined with very few people on the slopes. Highly recommended is the Women's Downhill course from the Winter Olympic Games 2006 which is fast and fun. It is easy to ski all day here without queing. The views are also stunning as you look down the valleys and across into France. The standard of food at the mountain restaurants is also pretty good. Even if you don't actually stay in this resort but are in the Milky way - make the effort to come and ski here.
