San Siro, Milan
The San Siro Stadium is one of those stadi that every football fan wants to see. Every fan would love to watch their team striding out to play Inter or AC Milan in this famous arena. The atmosphere is always impressive, whether there are 10,000 fans in for an early round of the Coppa Italia or if the stadium is full for a derby or huge European night.
The hardcore AC Milan and Inter fans own different ends of the stadium. The Inter Boys, Ultras and Vikings (three of the main supporters clubs) occupy the second level green section of the stadium in the Curva Nord, behind one of the goals. The Rossanera and Forza di Leone (two of the main AC Milan groups) control the second level blue seating area in the Curva Sud behind the opposite goal.
The hardcore fans arrive with their flags, banners, drums, fireworks and explosives (although they are banned under Italian law now). The head of the supporters climb up onto the railings and with megaphones control the whole crowd in an amazing show of support, song and visual chorography. You'll see the fans waving their scarves above their heads. You'll feel the concrete shaking as the fans jump in unison. You'll shudder as the fans throw down sound bombs and wonder how they got them into the San Siro! You will take pictures of the flares being set off, and show your friends 'those crazy Italian football fans' when you get home.
The stadium dates back to 1927, but it was modified for the Italia '90 World Cup. It hosted 6 matches during the competition. These were:
