Resorts in Italy
Italy is a popular destination for skiers and boarders of all abilities. It is by far the cheapest of the four major Alpine countries and on mass the Italians are a happy and accommodating nation. The food and wine are excellent and the scenery is often stunning. The resorts have charm and the locals extend a warm hand to everyone.
The Italians tend to arrive from the cities at the weekends, which means the slopes are fantastically quiet midweek leaving you to explore without interruption. The mountain restaurants are of a high standard but so much cheaper than France and Switzerland. Even when the Italians arrive at the weekends, it is often a late start, a long lunch and an early finish so slopes are never crammed to bursting point. Lift queues are rare outside of the peak times and weeks.
Italian bars and restaurants are now smoke free which is a huge improvement. It is also compulsory for children under 14 to wear a helmet on the slopes. Both laws seem sensible and have been welcomed by all.
