Early Snow

Early snow across Europe is lifting the spirits of skiers, boarders and those with businesses involved in the winter season. Just about every resort has enjoyed heavy, early snow this year, bucking the trends of the last few seasons. This should help holiday bookings which have been slow this year because of the credit crunch and poor sterling to euro exchange rate.

However, resorts were packed last weekend for the European Christmas holiday on the 6th of December. Resorts were caught out by the level of their own nationals that made the trip up the mountains. Most businesses recorded an increase in takings of 20-30% on the same weekend last year.

People are crossing their fingers for Christmas and New Year, but more importantly January which, it seems, still has many holidays still to be sold. January is traditionally a time for cheap packages and a period where new skiers and boarders take to the pistes. Holidaymakers worrying about their mortgage and finances may decide to wait till March or next year.

Snow conditions are absolutely amazing at the moment though, and those who make the effort to hit the slopes will feel they got real value from these incredible conditions, so early in the season.
